What is a Small Group
Small groups are intended to mirror elements of the church mission of
making, maturing, and mobilizing committed followers of Jesus Christ. The process that will drive that mission is what we call "WWW - Worship, Walk,
and WorX."
A subset of the total Horizon family gathers together on a regular basis
for the purpose of developing a community (Walk) in which we get to know
one another beyond the simple conversations that can take place in the
halls of church on Sunday or in large group settings. This can be
families, couples or individuals with a particular focus, status in life,
etc.
Teaching (Worship) serves as the primary element of the group during their
regular meetings. Topics can be based on the desires of an established
group or a particular topic can create the basis for the formation of a
group. Doctrinal or theological topics (i.e. "What does reformed mean?")
might fit the interest for some or for another group it might mean a
specific life application (i.e. "How do I survive raising teenagers?")
At least four times during the year, groups venture outside the walls of
Horizon church to serve the community (WorX). It can be as simple as
serving at a soup kitchen or as intense as a short term mission trip by
the group.
